Episode Cats94

From Countdown

Episode Cats94, billed as 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 15, Episode 2 was a special episode broadcast on 26 January 2018, as part of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 15.

Acting Team Captains Lee Mack and Alan Carr were the contestants, along with Victoria Coren Mitchell and Dane Baptiste who were their teammates respectively, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.

The match saw Lee Mack, with the assistance of Victoria Coren Mitchell, winning by 52 – 41 in an 8-rounder and they won a Countdown lawnmower complimentary of a detachable wagon.

Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician. The Dictionary Corner guest was Sam Simmons, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

Interesting and notable moments from the episode are listed below:

1) While showing off his prop which was "Tipples" by squeezing out Guinness Beer from under his breastpocket, Alan accidentally tipped over the glass which he was filling up and caused it to stain his shirt much to the audience's laughter.

2) During the 30 seconds in Round 1, the clock music was replaced by a classical piece with male German shepherd dancers in pairs dancing in the middle of the studio. Halfway through, they started slapping each other buttocks and to top it off, Jimmy went in and slapped one of theirs at the end.

3) Halfway into Round 3, Jimmy pressed a "Do Not Press" button which caused Susie to "fly" out of her chair to the extreme right of the studio after a five second Countdown timer, albeit it was not synchronised with the Countdown clock.

4) During the 30 seconds in Round 7, Jimmy and Rachel played Table Tennis in the middle of the studio and at the end, Jimmy swallowed the ball and spat it out with him dropping the racket on the table. Coupled with that, Victoria found the word CORONER after the time was up but the director could be heard faintly in the distance allowing this move after Alan voiced his unhappiness that this was technically cheating.

NOTE 1: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.

NOTE 2: In Round 1, Alan's offering of UNLIMED should have been allowed as it is valid in the ODO. Thus, the final score should have been 46 – 48 in Alan and Dane's favour. Also, the solution for Round 4 was presented after Round 6 with the superimposed image of Round 4 on the bottom screen inserted in for reference while Rachel squeezed in the solution on the paper on the left next to the latter round's workings.

NOTE 3: The third Teaser's answer, unbottle ☓, is invalid as it cannot be found in the ODO.
