Episode Cats104

From Countdown

Episode Cats104, billed as 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 16, Episode 8 was a special episode broadcast on 31 August 2018, as part of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 16.

Regular Sean Lock and Acting Team Captain Alan Carr were the contestants, along with Roisin Conaty and Joe Lycett who were their teammates respectively, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.

The match saw Sean Lock, with the assistance of Roisin Conaty, winning by 52 – 29 in an 7-rounder thanks to the conundrum being worth 12 points instead of the usual 10 in a failed attempt to let Alan's team win the game and they won a Countdown banjo.

Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician. The Dictionary Corner guest was Spencer Jones, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

Just before Round 5, the teams took part in "Let's Get Critical" which involved differentiating genuine and fake online complaints. Sean's team won the game with the score at 2 – 0, thus five points were awarded to his team.

Interesting and notable moments from the episode are listed below:

1) During the Introduction, Alan used his cans of alphabet soup to spell out the words BOTTY and BURP on a plate and had trouble getting a close-up shot from the cameramen. Also, Sean provided all the celebrities with bubble gum slushie which would remain for the entire duration of the show, partly inspired by "frozen waste" being "dropped" from an aircraft.

2) In Round 1, after the clock stopped, Jimmy was "struck" by lightning resulting in a charred and skeletal appearance with a burnt umbrella.

3) In Round 3, similar to Sir Alex Ferguson's rush of picking the letters for Carol Vorderman in Episode 4473, Joe did the same to Rachel albeit gave her a rest for the last two letters. He would do this again in Round 6 which caused Rachel to drop the T in that selection which should have been the second letter.

4) In Round 5, Alan was not asked to show that he had the same word as Sean. Also, Jimmy joked that Joe's declaration of VOWELS would have to be "disqualified" since he "copied" the word from the letters board.

5) During the 30 seconds in Round 6, Jimmy tried to balance six plates on several stands in the centre of the studio, which resulted in all of them dropping and smashing into pieces eventually and would remain until the end of the show.

NOTE 1: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.

NOTE 2: The "masseur" who was massaging Joe was the same person who pretended to be Kiki Dee in the episode three weeks earlier. She was only referred to as Deborah and was not credited.
