Episode Cats112

From Countdown

Episode Cats112, billed as 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 18, Episode 1 was a special episode broadcast on 26 July 2019, as part of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 18.

Regulars Sean Lock and Jon Richardson were the contestants, along with Miles Jupp and Rose Matafeo who were their teammates respectively, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.

The match saw Jon Richardson, with the assistance of Rose Matafeo, winning by 55 – 38 in an 8-rounder and they won a Countdown wheel of cheese which was in reality, a fake.

Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician. The Dictionary Corner guest was Vic Reeves, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

Interesting and notable moments from the episode are listed below:

1) During the Introduction, Jon introduced an anonymous old man sitting on a deckchair which he claimed he "found on Blackpool Beach", only for him to get up to reveal the slogan "We Are All F*cked" written on his chest and back. Later, Miles introduced a waiter named Ian (who was in fact, David Reed) who served him steak but after mentioning his prison time, he got noticeably agitated and became rude, before finally composing himself and leaving. He was later summoned again just before Round 4 to give Miles Reggae Reggae sauce.

2) In Round 1, the clock music was replaced with Crystallize by Lindsey Sterling. At the same time, both Jimmy and Rachel performed a series of gymnastics move in the centre of the studio.

3) During the 30 seconds in Round 3, Jimmy was trying to make a cocktail in "Jimmy's Barr", only for him to fumble and shatter several cups of glasses. He later made up by passing actual cocktails to the celebrities, including a mini one to Jon.

4) In Round 5, it was dubbed a Tension Round; points were doubled, the clock music was replaced with a techno version of it coupled with sirens and a voice counting down from ten was heard as well. When the time was up, confetti shot out in front of the contestants, scaring both Jon and Rose. Thus, the maximum was worth 12 points in this case. Also, Sean and Rose were not explicitly asked to show what they had, so it is assumed they had the same words as Miles.

NOTE 1: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.

NOTE 2: During the conundrum, Jimmy decided to give another chance to Sean by restarting the clock, giving the players an extra 30 seconds. This also explains the oddity in Jon's timing when he buzzed in.
