Episode Cats19, billed as 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 4, Episode 3 was a special episode broadcast on 20 June 2014, as part of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 4.
8 Out of 10 Cats regulars Jon Richardson and Sean Lock were the contestants, along with Josie Long and Rob Beckett who were their teammates, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.
The match saw Sean Lock, with the assistance of Josie Long, winning by 41 – 26 in an 8-rounder and they won a Countdown jacket.
Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician, and Joe Wilkinson helped her out from round 5 onwards. The Dictionary Corner guest was Vic Reeves, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.
This episode was notable for two reasons. Firstly, in Round 5, other than Joe swapping the letters around, the P, O and A were not from the board and were custom made, thus they appeared larger than usual. Secondly, in Round 7, Joe added four more letters to the letters board, meaning that there were 13 letters available to use to create words, making it the first time that more than 9 letters have been on a board and with that, Richardson became the first person in Countdown history to get a nine-letter word and score only nine points, instead of the usual 18.
NOTE: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.
