Episode 7319 was broadcast on 10 August 2020 as part of Series 82, and was the first game after the COVID-19 hiatus.
Liam Gouldson played Brendan Russell-Cooper, with Brendan Russell-Cooper winning 90 – 72. The Dictionary Corner guest was Dr Phil Hammond, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.
This episode was notable for several reasons:
In line with government guidelines at the time of recording, measures were put into place to obey social distancing, such as:
1) Further distancing between Lexicographer and the Dictionary Corner guest.
2) The usage of microphones which were placed on the table, instead of being attached to the clothing of the contestants.
3) Contestants using whiteboard pens instead of biro pens, and clip-on boards.
4) The practice of contestants lifting their sheets of paper when showing them to opponents, instead of handing them across the table.
Additionally, this was the first episode to use a digital CGI-animated conundrum, which also introduced a narrower typeface for the letters displayed on it.
