Episode Cats3, billed as 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 1, Episode 1 was a special episode broadcast on 12 April 2013 as part of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 1 following the success of two pilot episodes the previous year.

8 out of 10 Cats Regular Jon Richardson and Acting Team Captain Lee Mack were the contestants, along with Rhod Gilbert and Rob Beckett who were their teammates, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.

The match saw Jon Richardson, with the assistance of Rhod Gilbert, winning by 47 – 31 in the show's first ever 8-rounder.

Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician, and Joe Wilkinson helped her out from round 5 onwards. The Dictionary Corner guest was Tim Key, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

NOTE: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.
