Matt Le Tissier is a guest on Countdown, and was a contestant in Series 73. He is a former professional footballer, having spent his entire professional career playing for Southampton and became the first midfielder to score 100 goals in the Premier League. Despite being better than many players than those who were England regulars in the 90s, Le Tissier only won eight caps for England, which would have no doubt been more if he had played for Man United, Liverpool or a club who were more successful at the time.
During his debut appearance on Countdown on 29 June 2009, the conundrum scramble was LETISSIER in his honour. This had previously been one of the conundrums in the Series 28 grand final.
In 2015, he announced that he had applied to be a contestant and had passed the audition, thus making him only the third person to have appeared both as a guest and as a contestant in "normal" episodes after Mark Nyman and Damian Eadie, as well as the first to become a contestant after having previously served as a guest.
He made his début as a contestant on 30 September 2015, winning his first game by a 57 point margin. He would win two more matches by fairly convincing margins, before losing his fourth match to returning player and eventual finalist, John Hardie.
