Episode 2122
Episode 2122 was broadcast on 24 October 1997, as part of Series 37.
Brett Smitheram played Betty Cunningham, with Brett Smitheram winning 55 – 29. The Dictionary Corner guest was Angela Rippon, and the lexicographer was Anna Eaton.
NOTE: The conundrum was illegal as 'EYE SHADOW' was listed in the 9th edition of the ODE as two words (although in more recent editions it is listed as both formats). Dictionary Corner also made an error in the opening round, accepting Brett's offering of "BRITCHES". As a result, Brett was leading by 34 - 0 at half time; however, the scores were adjusted at the beginning of the second half after Susie Dent discovered during a break in filming that "BRITCHES" was illegal as it was only listed as in the US slang term "little britches", which meant that the second half stared with Brett leading by 26 - 6. Neither of these errors affected the outcome of the game
