Revision as of 06:34, 3 November 2018

8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 14, Episode 2 was a special episode broadcast on 25 August 2017, as part of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 14.

Acting Team Captains Johnny Vegas and Kathy Burke were the contestants, along with Bob Mortimer and Roisin Conaty who were their teammates respectively, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.

The match saw Kathy Burke, with the assistance of Roisin Conaty, winning by 35 – 12 in an 7-rounder and they won a Countdown portable disco.

Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician. The Dictionary Corner guest was Dr John Cooper Clarke, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

Just before Round 5, all players had to compose a poem for Dr John Cooper Clarke to hear and he would choose who had the best one. He felt that Johnny's poem was the best, thus five points were awarded to his team.

Interesting and notable moments from the episode are listed below:

1) During the 30 seconds in Round 1, both Jimmy and Rachel participated in a fencing duel in the centre of the studio. Once the clock ticked finished, Rachel proceeded to kick Jimmy's groin, much to the audience's amusement.

2) In Round 2, Bob originally wanted four large and two small numbers, but after Jimmy cautioned him that doing so had a potential to screw both teams up, he changed his mind and went for two large and four small numbers instead.

3) In Round 3, the third letter in the selection was originally an X, however it was thrown out due to Jimmy questioning the need for such a rare letter. It is worth noting that with the original selection with the X and the last letter T missing, the maximum score would have been two points less. Also, during the same round, Jimmy wanted to feed a dog with dog food but teased it and personally ate the food instead. He later passed two cans to both Bob and Johnny, to which Bob ate and got sick to the point he spitted it out on the studio floor.

4) During the 30 seconds in Round 6, Jimmy read a book called "Big Book of Beards", to the point he "grew" one. He would be seen with the beard on until the end of the show.

5) During the Conundrum, Johnny gave the answer leefturds ☓ after the clock stopped but his answer is recorded down here as Jimmy allowed it.

NOTE 1: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.

NOTE 2: This was the first ever episode in this version of the show that both regular team captains, Sean Lock and Jon Richardson were absent. Also, in Round 6, Dictionary Corner offered brogued as a 7, but that word is neither in ODE3 nor the ODO.
