Away from Countdown, Austin is an ABSP Scrabble player and came second in the first World Youth Scrabble Championship. Despite not having won a game, Austin was invited back for a special against Beth Sutton and won with 98 points, scoring in every round but one where he offered the invalid SWINGED.
