Austin Shin was a contestant in Series 49. He lost to the eventual Series champion John Davies by just one point. This was John's smallest winning margin in any of his 11 Series 49 games. Away from Countdown, Austin is an ABSP Scrabble player and came second in the first World Youth Scrabble Championship. Despite not having won a game, Austin was invited back for a special against Beth Sutton and won with 98 points, scoring in every round but two.
