Austin Shin was a contestant in Series 49.
Aged 13, he lost to the eventual Series champion John Davies by just one point. This was Davies' smallest winning margin in any of his 11 Series 49 games. Despite not having won a game, Shin was invited back for a special against Beth Sutton and won with 98 points, scoring in every round but two.
Away from Countdown, Shin is an ABSP Scrabble player and came second in the first World Youth Scrabble Championship.
