Category talk:Presenters

From Countdown

Merge presenters and hostesses? They seem a little sexist for categories, and means that Joe Wilkinson is a presenter whereas Claudia Winkleman is a hostess. It's a bit odd. The Doctor 14:39, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

How were they credited on screen? If that's the way they've been credited, I personally would leave them. Are any applicable episodes online?--Launchballer 14:48, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
How do you mean "any applicable episodes"? They've been credited as many things over the years ("vital statisticians" for example). I personally think they all ought to be merged as Rachel is in both categories, for example, despite having done no "presenting". Carol did DC intros between 05 and 08 so at least has "presented". It's all a bit of a mess. The Doctor 15:36, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
I meant the ones that Claudia covered for Rachel or that Joe helped her in.--Launchballer 15:42, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
I think all the Catsdown stuff is on All4, but I haven't checked that since All4 isn't the easiest website to navigate. The Doctor 16:44, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

Hope you don't mind me sticking my oar in - I guess it's a personal thing, and there is some argument for categorising as it appeared in the credits, but to me language such as "hostess" is dated and best avoided. Times change, and "Vital statistician" is not language I imagine the main show would use today - it trivialises/sexualises the intelligence of the female presenters. Personally I prefer gender neutral terms for the presenters - it really shouldn't matter if the different roles are performed by male or female presenters. TheWikiMan 17:28, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

I agree. Let’s move them RichardM 10:04, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
