Cathy Morgan was a quarter-finalist from Series 12. From Gillingham, she made her debut towards the end of the series, and won the final seven heats of the series to enter the final rounds unbeaten as #2 seed. In the quarter-final, however, she lost to Janet McRae. A good first numbers solution had given Cathy a 10-point lead, but when Janet unscrambled the conundrum AGOGLEENY into GENEALOGY she forced a sudden death conundrum. The scramble, RMADILLOA, meant that it was perhaps more a test of speed to the buzzer than conundrum-unravelling skills, and Janet buzzed in with ARMADILLO just a split second ahead of Cathy to win 67 – 57. Cathy played in Championship of Champions III, but lost in the first round to David Trace.
