Cifras y Letras

Cifras y Letras is a Spanish game show developed from Des chiffres et des lettres in the same way that Countdown was. During the 1990's it was shown on La 2 on Televisión Española. It's currently broadcast on Televisiones Autonómicas.

Format

Like DCeDL, the game is divided into three disciplines. The players solve a usual Countdown numbers game but have 45 seconds instead of 30, just as on the original French version. Letters games are selected by each contestants selecting alternately a vowel or a consonants. All words must be in the Diccionario de la Real Academia Española. Like the French version, conjugated verb forms are not allowed but participles (present, past and infinitive) are allowed. Unlike both Countdown and DCeDL, plurals are not allowed, but feminin forms are. Cifras y Letras also has duels, where the players are shown two words jumbled up together, and have to buzz in with the right answer for 10 points.

The version on La 2 had 10 rounds, this has now been extended to 13 rounds:

Contestants get on point per words as in Countdown, but 9 points for a correct numbers game. The duel is the only round where 10 points is avaiable. Therefore the maximum possible score would be 118.
