Dictionary Corner is the collecive name for the lexicographer and guest celebrity, whose job is to both verify contestants' words and suggest longer words.

Lexicographer

Now almost exclusively the role of Susie Dent, the role of lexicographer has traditionally been occupied by a member of the Oxford University Press. On-screen, the lexicographer gives the final decision as to whether a word can be allowed or not.

Celebrity

The guest celebrity is on hand to check the paper of the contestant in the champion's seat if he or she offers the same word or solution as the other contestant, to lie about the obscure niner that "they" got, and provide an item to lead into the first break. This is usually an anecdote from their time in their field of entertainment, a puzzle or magic trick, or in the case of the particularly dull a reading from the same bloody Just William book that he bores everyone to death with every bloody time.
