Episode 1002 was broadcast on 30 March 1990, and was an extended 45-minute episode for the Series 19 grand final.

Michael Wareham played Gino Corr, with Michael Wareham winning 92 – 68. The Dictionary Corner guests were Nigel Rees and Bill Tidy, and the lexicographer was Simon Mason.

This was the last show to feature the thick-letter tiles.

Notably, the selection in Round 12 was identical (disregarding its order) to that in the immediately following letters selection, in Round 1 of the following game.
