Episode 1588 was broadcast on 2 January 1995, as a quarter final of Championship of Champions VII.

Damian Eadie played Andy Bodle, with Damian Eadie winning 47 - 45. The Dictionary Corner guest was Denis Norden, and the lexicographer was Richard Samson. As one of the rare games from the nine round era to see a contestant win despite having three words disallowed, it is heralded as a classic and listed as such in Countdown: Spreading The Word.
