Episode 1718 was broadcast on 1 January 1996, as part of Series 31.
Janet Wilding played Glyn Wigley, with Glyn Wigley winning 60 – 56. The Dictionary Corner guest was Geoffrey Durham, and the lexicographer was Mark Nyman.
This was the first episode to feature the COD9 as the dictionary used in the Corner. It also introduced the short-lived "extra intensity" clock music.
