Allan Saldanha played Harvey Freeman, with Harvey Freeman winning 82 - 79. The Dictionary Corner guest was Nigel Rees, and the lexicographer was Catherine Clarke.

Saldanha made a poor start, refusing himself CREOSOTED which allowed Freeman to take an 18 point lead after the first round. Saldanha narrowed the gap when Freeman had AMATIVE disallowed. The contestants scored evenly in the next 4 rounds, although neither player could get the conundrum in round 7.
