Jean Gallacher played Alex Davis, with Jean Gallacher winning 50 - 32. The Dictionary Corner guest was Jan Harvey, and the lexicographer was Mark Nyman.
Gallacher won the game after Davis mispronounced the crucial conundrum PROBOSCIS. Davis was consequently given another opportunity in the following series later in the year.
