Episode 2222

From Countdown
Revision as of 10:11, 19 January 2012 by DaveW1980 (talk | contribs)

Episode 2222 was broadcast on 20 March 1998, as part of Series 38.

Jean Gallacher played Alex Davis, with Jean Gallacher winning 50 – 32. The Dictionary Corner guest was Jan Harvey, and the lexicographer was Mark Nyman.

NOTE: Gallacher won the game after Davis mispronounced the crucial conundrum PROBOSCIS with three seconds left, which Gallacher then solved as soon as the clock was restarted. Gllacher admitted on the show that she would not have been able to give the correct answer had Davis not buzzed in first. Mark Nyman decided that this was as a bad call, as Davis had technically not given an incorrect answer, only a mispronunciation of an obscure word. As a result, Davis was given an opportunity in the following series later in the year.
