Episode 2672 was broadcast on 24 December 1999 and was the second semi-final of Series 41.
Gary Woodward played Simon Cooper, with Simon Cooper winning 64 – 41. The Dictionary Corner guest was Rick Wakeman, and the lexicographer was Catherine Clarke.
This episode was broadcast on Carol Vorderman's 39th birthday, but Richard Whiteley pretended to think it was her 40th. At the beginning of the episode, he comically presented Carol with a plaque reading "Happy Birthday Carol. 40 39". CECIL also displayed the number 040, which was changed to 039 in recognition of her real age.
