Episode 2682

From Countdown
Revision as of 22:51, 27 August 2015 by The Doctor (talk | contribs)

Episode 2682 was broadcast on 6 January 2000, as part of Series 42.

Helen Wrigglesworth played Malcolm McInnes, with Malcolm McInnes winning 40 – 38. The Dictionary Corner guest was Richard Digance, and the lexicographer was Mark Nyman.

NOTE: During the game, Wrigglesworth offered the word ROADSIDE, which was disallowed by Mark Nyman due to its non-appearance in the COD 10th edition (which was introduced at the start of that day's filming). However he spoke to the OUP after that day's filming. It was judged that ROADSIDE should have been allowed, and therefore the final score should have been 46 – 33 in Wrigglesworth's favour.

As a result of this error, Wrigglesworth was allowed to return to continue her run some weeks later in Episode 2717. The incident also caused the show to revert to the 9th edition of the ODE (using the 10th edition as a back up) from Episode 2685 for the rest of Series 42. Series 43 used the New Oxford Dictionary of English, and its subsequent editions were used until Series 70.
