Tom Cappleman played Glen Webb, with Tom Cappleman winning 133 – 115. The Dictionary Corner guest was Gloria Hunniford, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

This was the first episode sponsored by HSL: Your Chair Specialists.

This episode marked the first instance in which any player spotted three nine-letter words in a new 15-round game, as well as the first (in any format) in which both contestants spotted three nine-letter words. Cappleman and Webb's combined score of 248 was also the highest ever achieved in the new 15-round format, until it was beaten the following Friday by Andy Platt and Dylan Taylor's 252.
