Revision as of 20:27, 6 October 2021
Episode 6992 was broadcast on 18 January 2019, and was the first semi-final of Championship of Champions XV.
Philip Aston played Zarte Siempre, with Zarte Siempre winning 106 – 73. The Dictionary Corner guest was Jon Culshaw, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.
This episode marks the first, and to date only, time a contestant has beaten the same opponent three times.
NOTE: In Round 8, Siempre checked with Dent on the validity of MISREADER, however it was cut from the final broadcast.
Sharing no common letters with the scramble, Aston's guess of BYE on the conundrum set a new record for the worst-ever conundrum guess, beating FROTTIFY from PRANGMAGI in Episode M72.
This episode was repeated on 5 August 2020.
