The game was between Austin Shin and Beth Sutton, both of who were notable for achieving success on the show before the age of 16.

Austin lost to Series 49 champion John Davies by a single point, while Beth won 3 shows, before losing to Derek Pollard, and just narrowly missed out on qualifying for the series finals.

Austin Shin won 98 – 67. The Dictionary Corner guest was Bernard Ingham, and the lexicographer was Alison Heard.

NOTE: Shin's declaration of SWINGED in round 12 was valid – it's the past participle of SWINGE, making the final score 105 – 67, but instead it was 98 – 67.
