Grant Waters was a finalist in Series 67.

Waters first appeared on 7 August 2012 with a tough game against Anthea Rata, where he had to solve the crucial conundrum to win. He went on to win 7 games in total with an impressive tally of 722 points helped along by a gaggle of 9s such as REREADING, RANDOMISE, LEGATIONS and MISROUTED. He narrowly missed out on becoming an octochamp in his 8th game when Andy Rossall spotted REINFLATE when Waters had settled on TREENAIL. Those 18 points proved crucial for the rest of the game and Rossall prevailed.

Waters squeezed into the finals as 8th seed despite amassing more points than 4 of the octochamps above him. This gave Waters a tough draw against the No.1 seed and eventual Series Champion Paul James in the quarter-final on 12 December. Waters gave up a good fight though, matching James on the letters rounds, pulling ahead in Round 4 and still ahead in Round 9. Two tough numbers rounds were his undoing though as James showed his class by solving them both and the conundrum to win convincingly in the end.
