Matthew Parris was a guest on Countdown. He was a former Conservative MP turned journalist.
In 1999, Parris caused a stir in the media when he revealed that Countdown's lexicographer and Dictionary Corner guest do not find all of their given words on their own, as is presumed by most viewers, but instead receive help via an earpiece from two other staff members backstage. [1]
