Philip Aston is an Apterite who made his online tournament debut in the sixth edition of AptoSOS against the event's organiser Matt Morrison, losing his only game by four points. Currently competing in the 2018 Apto Double Elimination Championship, he will appear in Series 78 on 21st February 2018.

Prior to appearing on the show, Aston made his tournament Scrabble debut at the 2016 Rotary Open Scrabble Championship of Wiltshire, for a chance to qualify for the National Scrabble Championship finals. He was 2nd in Division B after three games, but crashed to 17th (second to last!) four games later. This was followed by Nailsea, where he finished 6th out of 20 competitors and won a “ratings” prize, having gained more ratings points than anyone else in his division. He uploads “Word of the Week” videos on the Mind Sports Academy website.[1]

Aston also participates in quizzes on Apterous. In 2017, he won Andy Platt’s Pointless quiz, and was one of four winners of Sam Prouse’s Christmas Pub Quiz.

His father, Simon, won £8,000 on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 2005.
