Series 9 ran from March to June 1986, and began with Championship of Champions II. The ninth of 53 series presented by Richard Whiteley, it was won by David Trace. This series was the second shortest in Countdown history by number of episodes, featuring 40 (excluding those in the CoC); only Series 1 had fewer.
