Steve Bruce was a contestant in Series 17. In his only appearance he lost to future quarter finalist David Poulter. Steve is famous outside of countdown for his run as a footballer for Manchester United in the early to mid 1990's, and for his subsequent managerial career. He has had successful stints as manager of Crystal Palace, Birmingham City and Wigan Athletic. In May 2009 he was appointed the new manager of Sunderland football club.
