Susie Dent is a lexicographer formerly working for Oxford University Press, but now works freelance and is widely recognised as one of the most famous lexicographers in the country, writing an annual 'language report' about the English language. She has appeared on Countdown over a thousand times since her debut, and has been a permament fixture in Dictionary Corner since series 52, only missing 3 games in series 56 due to illness, when Countdown producer Michael Wylie took over.

Susie is currently on maternity leave and has been replaced by Alison Heard in dictionary corner for the time being.

Susie is undeniably the ultimate thinking man's crumpet
