Susie Dent is a lexicographer formerly working for Oxford University Press, but now works freelance and is widely recognised as one of the most famous lexicographers in the country, writing an annual 'language report' about the English language. She has appeared on Countdown over 1800 times since her debut, more than anybody besides Richard Whiteley or Carol Vorderman. Although she is a permament fixture in Dictionary Corner now, this has only been so since series 52 when she became full-time. Prior to this, the role was rotated between other employees of OUP. Since becoming full-time, she missed three games in series 56 due to illness, when Countdown producer Michael Wylie took over, and then a further three months in 2007/08 when she took maternity leave.

Not sure about the hat.

Susie is undeniably the ultimate thinking man's crumpet.
