Talk:8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown

From Countdown

Hi guys. Here's what I discovered while making an episode list in my sandbox, sorted by the production code. In the source code of the episode list on official website there are hidden fields "seriesNumber" and "episodeNumber", which don't always match the season and episode number in episode's titles, but they can also be used to guide us as to which episode belongs to the relevant season. So:

  1. S02E05 and S02E06 have been swapped. I don't think we need to change anything, as the aforementioned hidden fields in these episodes do go in order. It's the same situation with S16E01, which, according to the production code, is between (who would have thought) S17E04 and S17E05;
  2. Christmas Special 2014 belongs to Series 6, not Series 5. This is, by the way, a common principle on TV (I know this from episode list, like Tipping Point Lucky Stars, made by me for Gameshows.ru website) that the season may start with the Christmas special, and the other episodes are numbered not from the second but from the first;
  3. Christmas Special 2015, by the same token, belongs not to Series 7 but to Series 8;
  4. As for Christmas Special 2016 and New Year Special 2016 — the hidden fields do not clearly distinguish whether this is Series 11 or 12. The same goes for Christmas Special 2017 between Series 14 and 15, and Christmas Special 2018 between Series 16 and 17. Following the same pattern, I would also classify them as the next season rather than the previous one;
  5. Election Special is part of the thirteenth season;
  6. Sure, S18E07 and S18E05 have been swapped. My suggestion: swap articles Cats118 and Cats116, i.e. orientate not by broadcast date, but by episode order. However, we may keep it that way since the season's continuity is not compromised;
  7. Christmas Special 2020 was produced before Christmas Special 2019 and was shown in Australia at a time when it was between S19E06 and S20E01 in the UK. I suggest to describe these details (besides, there's already a hunch about it on the episode page), and move Christmas Special 2019 to Season 19;
  8. S20E01 and S21E01 have actually been swapped. It doesn't affect any of the numbering in any way;
  9. But what does affect the numbering is that there is one unreleased episode in Series 20 with the code 70362-009. Perhaps it should be placed between, for example, Cats128 and Cats129;
  10. Interesting fact: in Series 22, the sixth episode was shown first, the fifth episode was shown second, the second episode was shownfifth , and the first episode was shown sixth. It doesn't affect anything;
  11. Christmas Special 2021 is a part of Series 23;
  12. Christmas Special 2022 is a part of Series 24. By the way, this season's episodes will be shown in a scatter shot.

So, can I start transforming the episode lists based on my conclusions? Dicto (talk) 02:54, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

Fine by me.--Launchballer (talk) 08:02, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
So, I've made some changes regarding almost everything from my list, but something I left unchanged, because it would have put in a lot of effort for an imperceptible and unreasonable result. Interestingly, I found an episode list on Wikipedia. Many of the Christmas specials are assigned to corresponding following Series there. It's just like I've done 😏.
