:I'm going to pretend I actually understand any of this, and just say "yes, when Apto comes back I will leave a note for you". I have no idea what you mean about a web tracker. [[User:The Doctor|The Doctor]] 17:53, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

Mike Brown

Sorry, I got halfway through typing this and hit a wall. The current Mike Brown, with numerous co-event appearances and several wins, is (in my opinion) clearly the primary topic for people searching for Mike Brown. You can argue whether or not Stephen Howe constitutes a primary topic, but as I was doing one, I thought I may as well do the other.--Launchballer 15:07, 29 January 2020 (UTC)

That's not right, for me. It should be the case that both Browns, Howes, etc. are treated equally. The Doctor 18:35, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
@Launchballer: I don't believe there is such a notion as "primary topic", and indeed that is what Disam pages are for. The fact we had two Mike Browns in the same series is irrelevant; your logic would imply that the likes of Chris Davies need to be re-done, and I don't think that's appropriate at all. The Doctor 10:21, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
Fair enough, I'll change them back. I can't be bothered to sift through Category:Disambiguation pages, I'm in the throes of assessment season.
On a completely unrelated matter, are you an actual doctor, because I hit my head on a low ceiling yesterday morning, and I've since been dry heaving - both of which are symptoms of concussion.--Launchballer 11:21, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
No. It was just an awful Doctor Who reference when I made this account nearly 10 years ago. The Doctor 12:17, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
I have a horrible feeling I may have to go through that category anyway given that a random sample of disambiguation pages shows a complete lack of consistency. Possibly a job for a template?--Launchballer 14:21, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
Really? A random sample for me shows a lot of consistency.... The Doctor 15:05, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
Some contain full sentences (Steve Harris and Andrew Jackson), while some are bullet points (Mark Jones and Barry Smith) and others contain varying lengths of lede (Chris Davies and Debbie Jones).--Launchballer 16:00, 6 February 2020 (UTC)

Joe Lycett

I do not agree with including Joe Lycett's 'real name' within his article here. It smacks of recentism, and we haven't included the real names of Lee Mack or Johnny Vegas or Paul Sinha here.--Launchballer 12:29, 9 March 2020 (UTC)

@Launchballer - to that I say "why not"? The Doctor 18:30, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
I'm not seeing anything in Countdown:About, and I will admit to being slightly biased due to my contempt for celebrity in general (I take the view that the Catsdown contestant articles should not contain any more detail than the Countdown contestant articles), however this Hugo Boss business strikes me as a prank for a show and would amount to a footnote in an encyclopedia entry, so it seems too trivial for us. Leave it for Wikipedia.--Launchballer 20:25, 9 March 2020 (UTC)

Andy Hewitts

That's the second time I've been caught out today; first with William G. Stewart, which is not accessible, and second with the new editor JackH, who I initially thought was an occasional editor of UKGameshows.com, another site I edit, but now I'm not sure. Which Andy Hewitt, if either, is the new one?--Launchballer 18:05, 27 April 2020 (UTC)

Sorted it all out, all the Andy Hewitt's are the same person, spoke to him earlier. JRTerrier24 19:05, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
@JRTerrier24: I was told as the program was going out that it was the S62 Hewitt, but if he’s said they’re the same person that sorts that out. The Doctor 19:18, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
@Launchballer: The category had a full stop and WGS’s page didn’t, hence the redirect as adding the infobox threw up a red link. The Doctor 19:18, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
I meant I'd been caught out in that I forgot that .s don't seem to work in mainspace and so I managed to break it by moving William G Stewart to William G. Stewart - which I promptly moved back rather red-facedly.--Launchballer 19:20, 27 April 2020 (UTC)

Series 1

Series 1 I had to restore from scratch using Google Cache after it was accidentally deleted, and it wasn't even the first page that's happened to. Like smashed glass on a duvet, people are still rolling over and wincing. There must be some way of preventing something like this happening; do we have a backup anywhere? And whose idea was it for us to not record deleted revisions?--Launchballer 13:32, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

Launchballer

This post has been removed. RichardM 12:21, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

No, and moreover you can't call people paedophiles. The Doctor 12:30, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
I'd actually blocked him for a week right after he said that for a different reason; had I seen this, I would've blocked him indefinitely. I can confirm that, as well as having never appeared on the show, I also have never recorded for the show. And I will be making you an administrator just in case I can't get on to the wiki for whatever reason.--Launchballer 14:26, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
Yes, I thought you were Ryan Lam but was getting mixed up with User:RLSJ1997. The Doctor 14:35, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
I have well and truley served my punishment. I’m sorry about that I didn’t intend any malice and I withdraw my above post, I will be more careful in future with what I say and do. Is it ok for mr to return now? Richard.

Dick

Having reviewed Wikipedia’s blocking policy, User:Dick should be blocked infinitely. Vandalism is a total offence and if that isn’t a sufficient evidence for a permanent block you could actually block him for “unacceptable username”. Darren F 14:52, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

I've blocked due to his trademark dirty mind (how does he know he isn't series 15 champion Dick Green?) and preference for the same box as User:JackH.--Launchballer 15:29, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

I was about to do that

I was in the process of doing Matt Sykes

I was about to do that

Me and you must think alike I was about to do Matt Sykes

Can you please sort the redirects

Can you please sort the redirects out please?

Mike Brown

Please be more careful when repairing page-move vandalism, as your deletion of Obselute took the page history of Mike Brown (debut episode 3328) with it. Don't worry, JohnnyCanuck deleted the page history of Rhys Benjamin when he deleted Rhys BenjamIn, and back when he had rights MartinS took out the history of Series 1 when he deleted Deleted Page, but still please be more careful.--Launchballer 19:13, 13 May 2020 (UTC)

Mike Brown was fine anyway, wasn't it? Unlike Series 1, there was the up-to-date version of Mike Brown, I think? The Doctor 20:01, 13 May 2020 (UTC)

Break

Do you want me to add the details of my most resent post to the wiki? I’m asking you 1st this time before messing up. David Marshall 15:48, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

Not yet, something like that I would want corroborated first by Damian. And as for Richard Whiteley, JR Whiteley is his full name. Some people use their middle name. The Doctor 16:50, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
Do you want me to forward you the email?.--David Marshall 16:58, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
No thanks. I've checked now. Goodbye. And don't come back. The Doctor 17:12, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

ZoomDown contestants

Where do they get the contestants for ZoomDown from? I assumed they were all from Apterous.--Launchballer 23:45, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

Mostly from Apterous, but also some from a Facebook group. Paul put some feelers out in more or less everywhere. (Edit) They're chosen by Paul to try and generate close match-ups. The Doctor 23:48, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

Notice

Hi Rhys, my friend has just forwarded me this email on that he enquired (I’ve cut me email address as I’m not having any old Tom Dick and Harry seeing and spamming it) File:///Email.jpeg. Carl Jackson

Edit: As I can’t tag it right just look at my edits and look at it there.--Carl Jackson 13:49, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

Series 2

Rhys, your explanation doesn’t add up to me, I’ve been starting at the laptop for the last 30 mins and I cant see a method. Are you happy to discuss it? We may find it that way, --Carl Jackson 14:56, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

Ps. Can I add my info regarding repeats?

I've explained it perfectly well. 1st-4th is on average scores (Byers 51.75; Nelkon 50; Baird 49.5; Mann 45.5). Then 5th-15th is "standard" method of points. And no to your latter point, there's no rush. Second opinion. The Doctor 15:27, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

COLIN XVI

You're unfamiliar with Show preview I take it.--Launchballer 00:07, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

No, I do use it, just overlooked it when I did preview. The Doctor 00:07, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

An Apology

Ryhs, I haven’t been all of the spam accounts but I know who is, a person who has been telling and bullying me for a long time and I just can’t get rid. I’m taking a long break and I’ll return legit one day. One day when I can be trusted I’ll be a very good sysop as I’ve learned the loopholes and server changers and stuff. Its a shame really as I can be legit and without being arrogant I’m very good at countdown. I’ll find another interest to cover me for a while and I’ll return legit some point next year. Sorry for everything and I’ve given up, there is more I need to explain but I’d rather not explain it where any old Tom, Dick and Harry can see it, I’ve been made out to be worse than I am. Take Care.--Ashton.H 12:08, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Spam

Hi Doctor, I’m a new editor here but an experienced Wikipedia and FANDOM editor, I run a fandom wiki about 80s game shows and we’ve had some spam and some indecent images, I have notice you have as well. I think a way to stop this would be blocking ips in the block to permanent. I’ve looked through your block list. All the usual spammers accounts take a 24 hour break, that’s until the IP block runs out. That doesn’t explain the porn though, from what I can see I don’t think it’s the sam guy anyway. Paintballer 09:51, 23 May 2020 (UTC)

Two things

I have updated Template:Recap project progress bar‎ so that the denominator will update whenever a new episode goes out (or, more precisely, when we create an article for it). Once I know how the numerator's been arrived at, I can update it further.

As for Template:Multiple eps, the reason it's no longer used is that no new recording dates are likely to be published any time soon, and it doesn't show up in Special:WhatLinksHere because it's designed to be substituted. However, at some point recording will resume, and I had planned to resume use of it later. Is the source code anywhere about, or would I need to recreate it nearer the time?--Launchballer 02:49, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

It’s not quite that simple. The denominator is Category:Episodes with round details, not the total ep count, and the numerator is that category − Category:Partial recaps and Category:Blank recaps, although at present there aren’t any. As for multiple eps, does Special:Undelete not work? And in the past it’s simply copied and pasted per episode, so I really don’t think much of that template quite frankly. The Doctor 03:55, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
I've updated the bar. Special:Undelete has never worked on this wiki; if you go to Special:Undelete/Template:Multiple eps, the word 'diff' for the diffs are black. I don't think this wiki keeps deleted revisions.--Launchballer 05:37, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

Countdown Masters

Hi Rhys. If you look at the videos from some episodes it is only the Friday when the leader chooses lets or nums. --RichardM 14:27, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

User:Pgallen2020

I’m fairly certain this isn’t Paul. Given that you have had problems with impersonators I believe this is the latestRichardM 14:31, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

Block

Hi Rhys, I’m not a sockpuppet, I’m a legit 1st time user and I’ll give you my full name if you want. I know creating this account makes me guilty of block evasion but I’m doing it to correct you. I’m happy to comply not any necessary checks. Please unblock my original account. --RichardM 2 15:33, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

I blocked you because not only is your behaviour extremely suspicious but you've also completely broken several pages. And you could have contacted me through several other means, so no. If you're insistent, go over my head and ask Charlie, but I assure you he'll say no. The Doctor 15:52, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

Episode 1666

As this features my best friends dad, he’s sent me a recording of the whole ep from VHS do you want me to do a recap for it? Ashcroft99 09:18, 30 May 2020 (UTC)

ZoomDown

Hello Rhys. I’m just wondering that the ZoomDown episodes look a bit odd, is it ok for me to tidy the ZoomDown section of this wiki up?. Jacob.

Could you be more specific? I'm happy with them as they are. The Doctor 17:10, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
Well, the ZD page could do with a bit of tidying, so do the episodes. Also, as Apto is down (and it will be for a while), how will the letters and numbers be generated on tonight’s show?.
I said more specific: I don't think they need tidying at all. Paul has a plan for tonight. Don't worry about that. The Doctor 17:16, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
Well, some ZD episodes have game info at the top and others after each game, also Fiona/Maus aren’t lex, that’s Ropey and George’s jobs. I’m intrigued to know what the plan is for tonight?. Also explain the Harvey Freeman revert please Rhys.
I have explained the Freeman revert in the edit summary. He is not unbeaten. He has lost twice. Fiona and Maus are as good as lex; they're certainly not the guest and it works as it currently is. Paul's happy with it at present so there's no need to change it. The Doctor 17:21, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
I’d hate to go against you Rhys, but how can I speak to Paul, is he on here?. Is Paul using Incoherency tonight?. Finally, how do you sign your posts as you do, is there a formula? Jacob
No, and there's no need for people to pester Paul anyway. And yes, add four tildes. The Doctor 17:25, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
So he’s not User:TheWikiMan then?. I’m not going to. Oh I see. BTW All ZD eps don’t start with Episode ZD? , can I make it so they do?. Is the recap writer down as that’s part of apto?. Jacob CP 17:27, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
All eps do start with ZD. And don't worry about the recap, it's my job. The Doctor 17:29, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
Do they, what about Episode ZD1 to Episode ZD8 I mean in the text eg Episode ZD16. Also Harvey only lost once to what I can see what was the special?. --Jacob CP 17:31, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
Episode 495 is the answer to that question. The Doctor 17:33, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
Oh that’s stupid. He only helped Bill in 2 rounds. Also, when you was on ZD and you mentioned BELLFACED, it’s fairly obvious that it was Nick Wainwright the troll was trying to impersonate, I found it within 3 minutes. Jacob CP 17:35, 4 June 2020 (UTC) AND The RR fan club was wrongly blocked, they’ve been going since 2014, way before Ashton Hancock

Apterous

I follow this wiki with a web tracker. Had I known it would fall over I would have followed that as well. Could you let me know as soon as Apterous itself comes back up again so I can track it?--Launchballer 17:51, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
