He amassed six wins and 370 points (excluding 10 points from a tie-break conundrum in his fourth game) to become the #1 seed of Series 4; true to the formbook, he returned for the finals and defeated Sebastian Ham, Daniel Chua and Alan Nash to emerge as the fourth winner of the show's grand prize.
Several months later Gaffney returned for the show's Masters Series (equivalent to Championship of Champions). He won the series by defeating the runner-up of Series 3 Jeremy Schiftan in the quarter-final, the runner-up of Series 1 Naween Fernando in the semi-final and the runner-up of Series 3 Matthew Thomason in the final. The Masters Series final become the last episode of Letters and Numbers making Gaffney the ultimate unbeaten champion of the Australian adaptation of Countdown.
