Chris, you can sign your posts with ~~~~ instead of typing it out longhand. :-) Countdown Kid 21:51, 27 June 2009 (BST)

I normally do! I'd tried to make it look cooler as per my signature on Wikipedia, but didn't realise that the substitution template which I use to do that on Wikipedia doesn't exist on The Countdown Wiki.
So I ended up looking like a tit. Yours with four tildes, Chris 'Crispy' Philpot 21:57, 27 June 2009 (BST)

Wednesday recaps

I agree with Howard, I think you'd do a great job with the Wednesday recaps. Countdown Kid 13:17, 28 June 2009 (BST)

Partial recaps

Hi, I've noticed that you've removed a few episode pages from Category:Partial recaps. Please don't do so without checking that all the game data is there. Check that there is the full number of rounds for the format in use at the time. Check that every letters or numbers round includes both contestants' declarations (or a dash wherever there was no declaration). Check that the numbers rounds include the contestants' solutions where required by the game, and not just the declarations. -- Smjg 17:11, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Hi Stewart,
Thanks for your message. I am a little confused as to where I have gone wrong - could you clarify which recaps I have removed from Category:Partial recaps in error? As far I am aware, I have only ever removed the rounds to check template from those recaps which I have personally gone through and compared to the original textual recap on the Countdown Database, round by round, with every single detail in place. With almost no exceptions, I've always highlighted recaps combed through in this way with the edit summary "Checked against the original recap."
I'm not disputing that I might have made an error - I've checked so many recaps I probably have done one or two on autopilot - but perhaps you might just show me the specific edit(s) which you dispute.
Thanks in advance, Chris 'Crispy' Philpot 22:04, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
The ones I've noticed are ones where the category was added manually, not using the recap checking templates. Specifically, Episode 1868 and Episode 2162. As you'll see, the contestants' solutions to the numbers rounds are among the information missing from these. -- Smjg 00:45, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
You're quite right, what a cock-up. Sorry mate! It won't happen again. -- Chris 'Crispy' Philpot 11:06, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Tournaments

A while ago I mooted the idea of having a little Upcoming Tournaments box on the front page, so that people can just refer to the Wiki when they want to know if there is anything in which they can take part. Now that you are an editor, what do you think about this? There is still a little bit of space in the corner of the front page which would be ideal. Vande 11:14, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

That sounds like a great idea to me - I'll put the information up when I next change the front page, which will be going into December. I can't see anyone higher than me objecting to such a useful resource. Perhaps you could give me a list of upcoming tournaments so that they're all in one place for me?

Thanks Crispy! There is a new tournament idea being mooted by the organizer of CoLei, Jeff Clayton. This would be around April time, and would a kind of Masters tournament, and a more formal affair. This is yet to be named. He has also confirmed CoLei3 for around October time. These are all I know of at the moment, but talking briefly to Ben last week, it sounded like he might be doing CONOT again too. Not sure if CoBris will come back, as it was going to this year and then didn't in the end.

I've created a template called Template:Upcoming Tournaments, which will be locked in due course as it will appear on the front page. For now, perhaps you could help me to start populating it with those tournaments we do know about. -- Chris 'Crispy' Philpot 11:54, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Front Page

Well done with the changes! I've just read the trailer for forthcoming Co-events, and noticed that you've linked to the wrong St Hughs church in Lincoln. CoLin is at St Hughs in North Hykeham, not St Hughs in cental Lincoln. Drawoh 10:00, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi Howard, and thanks for letting me know about the erroneous web address for St. Hugh's Church which I've now fixed. Are there any other tournaments on the horizon which could be added? Best wishes, Chris 'Crispy' Philpot 19:31, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
That's better  :) I'm not aware of any other Co-events scheduled. In fact I don't think that it's often that there's more than one actually scheduled. More are certainly being discussed, but I don't believe there are any dates yet for CoNot 2010 or CoLei 2010 (or any others). Drawoh 20:17, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Similar to what I said in the Tournaments section above then! --Vande 21:11, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
I didn't mean to undermine you on my talk page, mate - I can only blame tiredness! :-) -- Chris 'Crispy' Philpot 22:01, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
That's okay, mate, I didn't take it personally. There's a lot worse on the forum :-) --Vande 22:14, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

'Save page' vs. 'Show preview'

Hi Countdowner,

Thanks for your interest in and contributions to this Wiki. Whilst your enthusiasm is undoubted and very much appreciated, I've noticed that when you're editing a particular page, you have a habit of making many small changes and saving the page in between. Whilst this ensures that your work is not lost, working in this manner has the effect of clogging up the list of recent changes - at the last count, 43 of the 50 most recent edits belonged to you, though you've only actually edited five pages!

Don't worry - I'm not telling you off and you've not really done anything wrong. It's just harder for other editors to track the changes made to the Wiki when there are so many from one person. In future, when you are making a series of edits to one page and you want to see how they look, please don't press the 'Save page' button every time. Instead, if you press the 'Show preview' button in between smaller edits you can build them up into one big edit and just press the 'Save page' button once at the end. This will keep the page history clearer and easier to read and avoids upsetting other editors.

I hope I've explained this clearly. If not, please feel free to leave me a message on my talk page.

Best wishes, Chris 'Crispy' Philpot 23:01, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for telling me about the recent changes mistake, it is just that on my view it says e.g. 27 changes or something like that. I did not think of other Countdowners' view. I didn't think your letter was threatening in any way I appreciate that.
Best wishes, Countdowner 23:36 , 2 January 2010 (UTC)
Hi from me too. Can I add my welcome to that of Crispy. It's always good to see contributions from those who are keen. Everyone makes mistakes at times - we all do, and one of the benifits of Wikis which allow multiple editors is that when someone sees an entry that has been made incorrectly, it can be quickly corrected by anyone who notices it. So I hope that on the odd occasion that you've put something in wrongly, you'll not mind it being corrected. Good to see you here. Drawoh 05:34, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply, Countdowner. I hope you'll continue to enjoy contributing to the Wiki. Whilst I have your attention, you might like to know that there is a problem with your signature. When you type ~~~~, your username 'Countdowner' is not linked to your user page as you would expect. Instead, it goes to the Countdowner page, which is an automatic redirect to Contestant. To fix this, visit your preferences page and change the link in your signature from [[Countdowner]] to [[User:Countdowner|]]. This will give: Countdowner.
Best wishes, Chris 'Crispy' Philpot 11:28, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
