8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 21 is the current series of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and began on 14 January 2021. Recording resumed in December 2020 when Rachel Riley announced it on her Twitter feed. The first three episodes of the series were recorded prior to the pandemic, following which, many changes were enacted in order to comply with COVID-19 guidelines. This included the absence of a studio audience, the installation of a plexiglass in Dictionary Corner, social distancing being enforced where each player sat two metres apart from each other and each player having their own buzzer instead of one per team for the Conundrum.

Notably, the second and third episodes were transmitted out of order as it featured Rachel who was pregnant, suggesting that they were episodes that should have aired in 2020, but were withheld until now possibly due to several scenes which could have been deemed insensitive following the outbreak of the pandemic.
