Andrew Perry at the 2001 World Scrabble Championships.

Andrew Perry was the runner-up of Series 26, and a quarter-finalist in the Supreme Championship. As well as a participant in Championship of Champions VIII, Perry's record reads 12 wins and 4 losses (3 of which were to the eventual winner of the tournament) and is arguably the best player to not win a title in the 9-round format.

He first appeared as an 11-year-old on 30 August 1993 and won his first seven league games in impressive fashion before losing his eighth to Gary Thomson. Perry's father, Steve, appeared later in the same series. Perry was #1 seed for the final rounds, where he beat Peggy Mills in the quarter-finals and Alan Harwood in the semis, but in the final against Andy Bodle, he came unstuck, losing 73 – 45.

Perry played in Championship of Champions VII, but lost his first game to the eventual winner Don Reid.

Perry returned for the Supreme Championship and was on impressive form, eliminating David Elias, Chris Waddington and Clive Freedman before being knocked out in the quarter-finals of the series by eventual winner Harvey Freeman. However, he did solve the first conundrum in the grand final while watching in the audience: ADOBESTEP --> SPEEDBOAT.

Perry has also been a competitive Scrabble player who finished 3rd in the 2003 World Scrabble Championships, the then-highest placed finish for a British player since Mark Nyman; Nynam was Britain's only World Scrabble Champion for 21 years when he won in 1993.
