Cecil Korer is a veteran TV producer (Ask the Family, It's a Knockout!). He was appointed Channel 4's first head of light entertainment by Jeremy Isaacs, in which role he served for little more than a year (and by Isaacs' own admission, with a paltry budget), but was responsible for commissioning several of the channel's early hits including Countdown, as well as Treasure Hunt — both shows being based on French originals. His role in bringing the show to the screen is commemorated in the name of Countdown's random number generator, CECIL.
