Championship of Champions IV ran from 2 to 10 January 1989, and was won by Nic Brown. With his victory here, Brown became the second grand slam winner in Countdown history. Brown would go on to retire from Countdown after this tournament, also making him one of only two grand slam winners to have never been defeated, along with Graham Nash.
