Christopher Nolan was a contestant in Series 8. He scored a convincing win on his debut defeating reigning chmpion Leslie Preston decisively. The win included the impressive nine letter word RIGMAROLE, which meant he avoided a crucial conundrum. His success was short lived however and he lost his second game to David Weller (cousin of the musician Paul Weller).

Since his appearances on countdown Christopher has become a highly successful film director, and has directed such movies as "Memento", "Insomnia" and "The Prestige". His best known movies of all are the two most recent Batman movies, "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight". His assured direction contributed to Heath Ledger being awarded the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance as the Joker.
