Dave Costello was an octochamp in Series 74.
Costello reached the series finals in June 2016. Here, he was credited with ten additional points for solving the tiebreak conundrum in his first match with Jon Hinchliffe, although tiebreak conundrums aren't normally added onto points totals, this seems to have been erroneously done by the production team. This change raised his octochamp total from 713 points to 723, notably resulting in him outscoring another finalist, Tim Down. Costello therefore qualified for the finals as #5 seed and played Conrad Teixeira in the quarter-finals, but was defeated 85 – 75 on the unsolved crucial conundrum CIBERWORM.
