Brett Smitheram played Betty Cunningham, with Brett Smitheram winning 55 – 29. The Dictionary Corner guest was Angela Rippon, and the lexicographer was Anna Eaton.
NOTE: The conundrum was illegal as EYESHADOW is only listed in the COD9 as two words (although in more recent editions it is listed as both formats). Dictionary Corner also made an error in the opening round, accepting Brett's offering of BRITCHES. As a result, Brett was leading by 34 – 0 at half time; however, the scores were adjusted at the beginning of the second half after Anna Eaton discovered during a break in filming that BRITCHES was illegal as it was only listed as in the US slang term "little britches", which meant that the second half stared with Brett leading by 26 – 6. Neither of these errors affected the outcome of the game.
