Episode 3 was broadcast on 4 November 1982, as part of Series 1.

Bill Benson played Michael Goldman, with the game ending in a draw, the first instance of this. The Dictionary Corner guest was Ted Moult, the lexicographer was Mary, and the arithmetician was Carol Vorderman.

Besides ending in the first draw, this episode was notable for featuring, by definition, the first crucial conundrum in the show's history.
