Jon O'Neill played Jack Worsley, with Jon O'Neill winning 122 – 104. The Dictionary Corner guest was Dr Phil Hammond, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

O'Neill's perfect performance was the fourth in the history of 15-round televised Countdown, as well as being the third of the series. His score of 122 was also the highest ever achieved without a nine-letter word in the old 15-round format.

This episode is also notable for the fact that between them, O'Neill and Worsley scored maximum points in 28 of the 29 picks that they offered.
