Episode 5987
Episode 5987 was broadcast on 5 September 2014, as part of Series 71.
Szelong Ng played Paul Bradley, with Paul Bradley winning 68 – 52. The Dictionary Corner guest was Janet Street-Porter, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.
The show celebrated its 6,000th edition in this episode (even though Episode 6000 wasn't due to be broadcast until later in the month – of all the episodes billed as thousandth episodes, this one is the furthest to date from being the actual thousandth episode), and to mark the occasion, the show was recognised in the Guinness World Records for being the game show with the most series in the history of the world, with over 70 to its name.
NOTE: In Round 8, Bradley notably declared SPIRIT, when there was only one I in the selection, the mistake went unnoticed, and he was allowed to keep his 6 points. Coincidentally, Episode 1003 also had another administrative error (a misspelt conundrum) besides being erroneously billed as a thousandth episode.
There was no Origins of Words slot in this episode.
