Episode CS1997

From Countdown
Revision as of 00:14, 13 December 2020 by Launchballer (talk | contribs) (only 7 rounds?)

The Christmas special, broadcast on 25 December 1997, between Series 37 and Championship of Champions IX, featured the presenters, Richard Whiteley and Carol Vorderman (billed as Carol King, her married name) as contestants, with Carol King winning 43 – 30.

It was hosted by William G. Stewart, and featured Dictionary Corner guest Magnus Magnusson and lexicographer Mark Nyman. Susie Dent filled in for Carol as the arithmetician.

The game was a close battle, with Carol King living up to her new regal name by winning on a crucial conundrum. Whiteley later claimed that he had buzzed at the start of the conundrum out of habit, from normally having to press the button to start the clock.

NOTE: King was not asked for her solution in Round 6; it was assumed she had the same method as Whiteley.
