Episode Cats102

From Countdown

Episode Cats102, billed as 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 16, Episode 6 was a special episode broadcast on 17 August 2018, as part of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown Series 16.

Regulars Sean Lock and Jon Richardson were the contestants, along with Richard Ayoade and Jessica Knappett who were their teammates respectively, while Jimmy Carr reprised his role as the host.

The match saw Jon Richardson, with the assistance of Jessica Knappett, winning by 43 – 42 in an 8-rounder and they won a Countdown bathrobe.

Rachel Riley was, as ever, the arithmetician. The Dictionary Corner guest was Alex Horne & the Horne Section, and the lexicographer was Susie Dent.

Interesting and notable moments from the episode are listed below:

1) During the Introduction, while Jon was introducing "his" skink which was the "last remaining one on Earth", Fabio brought out the cage that "had" it, only for him to purposely drop it onto the floor and smashing it to pieces. This would remain until it was cleaned up just before Round 3.

2) Likewise in previous episodes, the Horne Section played various pieces throughout the show. Most notably, they were a bad rendition of Imagine by John Lennon during the Introduction and a techno version of the clock music with 2019 Predictions in Round 2.

3) During the 30 seconds in Round 1, Jimmy and Rachel played a game of darts. While Jimmy missed all three shots, Rachel got "Triple 20" using trickshots which notably annoyed the former.

4) During the 30 seconds in Round 3, Jimmy proceeded to do makeup on a woman in "Carr's Makeover" by cutting her hair and literally painting her face, which resulted in her looking identical to Jimmy in the end. (Her appearance was not credited.)

5) In Round 5, similar to the episode three weeks earlier, it was dubbed a Tension Round; points were doubled and the clock music was replaced with a techno version of it coupled with sirens. When the time was up, confetti shot out from behind the contestants, notably scaring everyone. Thus, the maximum was worth 12 points in this case.

NOTE: In this version, both players' declarations were allowed, although points were only awarded for the best answer.

A short segment of this episode was sampled in the 8 April 2021 episode of Jon Richardson and Lucy Beaumont's sitcom Meet the Richardsons.
